SUOMINEN BETHUNE – SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER – Page 1 of 3

Are you:

  • ·        A degreed, mid-career Supply Chain Manager experienced in working for a 24/7 B2B continuous manufacturer?
  • ·        Visionary when it comes to continuous improvement but willing to be hands-on to realize those improvements are implemented?
  • ·        Comfortable with ambiguity – working in an entrepreneurial environment where there are policies and procedures to be developed, and where you can have an impact on the outcome?
  • ·        Interested in joining a growing, nimble company committed to executing on a global investment plan and reforming its product offering?

If so, my client, Suominen (in Bethune South Carolina) has an exciting leadership opportunity in supply chain management (e.g., production planning, procurement, purchasing and logistics). We are seeking a supply chain manager skilled in implementing: strategies, procedures, and compliance activities to ensure that all organizational objectives are met.

If you’re dynamic, energetic, results-oriented and have had success in leading and directing a team of salaried and hourly personnel – if you have developed and managed effective, collegial relationships with other functions – please read on.

What do we offer?

Suominen is a global leader in nonwovens for wiping, medical and hygiene applications.   The Company is committed to being the best in business, producing nonwovens that others cannot and creating a community of changemakers.  In transitioning from commodity/ volume-based products to value-added, the Company is strategically focused on driving profitability.  As a result, there has been a significant investment in R&D and in renewed client relationship management.  Suominen offers possibilities for continuous development, competitive compensation and equal opportunities.  For this position, the company will assist with relocation expenses.

What does this position entail?

Reporting to the Plant Manager, with a dotted-line to the global supply chain leader, you will work collaboratively with others toward common goals and outcomes.  To be successful, you must be able to develop and manage networks with both external and internal partners – effectively utilizing their expertise and, as a team, drive competitive advantages for both clients and the company.  It is, therefore, imperative to understand the operational and financial requirements and measures of a continuous process, manufacturing organization.  It is equally important to be able to identify and implement continuous improvements in support of Suominen’s strategic direction. In this role, you will proactively demonstrate and promote the Company’s safety and quality culture – both Company core values.

What do we expect from you?

  • ·        Bachelor’s degree or higher in Supply Chain or other related areas – Logistics, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Marketing or Business, etc.
  • ·        5+ years of experience in a supply chain position – nonwovens would be a plus, but not mandatory.  Overall, 10-15 years’ consistent work experience/tenure with one or only several companies is desirable.
  • ·        Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role with direct people management responsibilities.
  • ·        A work history of quantifiable achievements that reflects the positive impact your actions have had on your employers.
  • ·        Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of SAP is a plus.
  • ·        Current APICS certification or the willingness to obtain it.
  • ·        Proven history of controlling and optimizing a production planning cycle.
  • ·        Ability to lead the implementation of new procurement and logistics process excellence initiatives, including: resource allocation, organization structure, leadership, supply chain systems and techniques for improved efficiencies with a demonstrated ability to lead cost-saving programs.
  • ·        Innate talent for challenging staff to continuously improve key skills – keeping them challenged, while emphasizing a learning orientation and managing performance effectively.

What qualities would make you successful in this position?

  • ·        Skilled in managing people (holding them accountable), projects and resources.
  • ·        Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • ·        Strong negotiation skills.
  • ·        Learns quickly and works well with little supervision/guidance.  Willing to admit when you don’t know something; but then you go about learning it.
  • ·        High energy, proactive, positive mindset.
  • ·        Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • ·        Talent for developing and promoting efficiency in procedures.
  • ·        Leadership and team-building skills; understands that working closely and well with others is necessary to achieve Company business goals.
  • ·        Highly-developed, decision-making skills (dependent on reputable data) – should not be risk averse.
  • ·        Self-starter and tenacious – does not give up easily – looks for solutions.
  • ·        Results-oriented nature; can achieve goals that are specific and measurable – yet can also work through ambiguity and change.
  • ·        Strong influencing skills.
  • ·        Integrity and ethical standards.
